The landscape was always dark, never changing, nor receding. It just was. Sometimes, he would trip over something that was non-existent, or a gust of wind would blow him over. All he could do was stand back up, and keep running.

A dark figure jumped from roof to roof, crimson eyes scanned the area for their next victim. An orange moon hung high in the sky and the stars hide playfully behind the scattered clouds of the night.

Leather boots landed silently on the next roof and the shadowed figure stilled, letting his senses take in all that was going on around him. He listened for the solitary footsteps of a human walking by themselves on a night such as this.

All was silent in the small town of Domino, Japan. The sun was slowly inching towards the horizon, signaling the evening hour. Stores were closing and people made their way to their homes in search of much needed rest.

Yet while some people were just getting ready for bed, others were just beginning to rise.
